KSP investigating after man shot while allegedly pointing gun at trooper
MORGANFIELD, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police says it is investigating after it says a man was shot after allegedly pointing a handgun at a trooper.
According to a release by the Kentucky State Police, the KSP Critical Incident Response Team was requested to investigate a trooper-involved shooting that occurred Thursday, Aug. 6 shortly after 11 p.m.
Authorities say a preliminary investigation shows a KSP trooper responded to assist the Morganfield Police Department in locating a vehicle that had struck an MPD cruiser while officers were conducting an unrelated traffic stop.
According to the release, the trooper found the vehicle on US-60 west of Morganfield. Upon seeing the trooper, authorities say the suspect, identified as 60-year-old Josh Wallace of Sturgis, pulled to the shoulder of the road.
As the trooper approached the car, authorities say Wallace exited his vehicle and pointed a handgun at the trooper.
In response, authorities say the trooper discharged his agency-issued weapon, striking Wallace.
Authorities say the trooper rendered first aid until EMS arrived. Wallace was transported to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, where he remains in stable condition as of this report.
No other injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing.
