KSP, Louisville police solve 2005 sexual assault cold case
FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police and Louisville Metro Police Department say a 2005 sexual assault cold case has been solved.
KSP says a female victim, 17, stated she had been kidnapped at gunpoint and raped on January 11, 2005. A rape kit was performed and DNA evidence was collected. No DNA matches were found in the Combined DNA Index System at the time.
KSP and LMPD received grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice. The grant allowed the agencies to collect additional DNA testing from Robrico English, 47. English’s DNA was identified as a match in the sexual assault case.
English was taken into custody and is charged with kidnapping and rape.
English is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence for first-degree robbery committed in 2019.
“KSP and our LMPD partners never gave up on seeking justice in this case,” said KSP SAKI Investigator Ben Wolcott. “Today’s announcement speaks to the unending commitment to deliver justice to victims of sexual assault, even if that justice happens decades after the crime occurred. Delayed justice is still justice served.”
KSP says English is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on December 11.
