Koi fish return to Fountain Square Park

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The fish are back at Fountain Square Park in downtown Bowling Green, but no, these can’t be reeled in.

The city’s park staff brought six koi fish to the fountain Tuesday morning.

The two largest koi are named, Peanut Butter and Jelly.

For the past few months, the fish were living in tanks at the city’s landscaping office.

At this time, it may be hard to see the fish due to some chemicals in the water used to keep the animals healthy.

According to parks and recreation director, Brent Belehcer, the koi in the fountain will reproduce and there will be dozens in the fountain by the fall.

Parks staff will then relocate many of the koi to lakes around the area.
