Kobelco announces $42 million expansion project in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- A Bowling Green aluminum plant will be expanding due to a multi-million dollar investment.

Automotive parts manufacturer, Kobelco Aluminum Products and Extrusions Inc. will expand with a $42 million investment. The expansion will create 90 new jobs, bringing the company’s planned employment to 220.

Kobelco will add a new melting furnace, extrusion press and fabrication equipment.

Company leaders plan to start construction next month and start production in the expanded operation in the first half of 2020.

Kobelco’s plant is located on Kobe Way in Bowling Green.

The plant manufactures aluminum bumper and sub-frame materials. Automakers increasingly want aluminum parts as they seek to lighten their vehicles to meet tightening federal fuel economy and emissions standards.
