Kidney transplant surgery a success after Butler County woman receives new organ from complete stranger
LEXINGTON, Ky.- A South Central Kentucky woman who received a kidney from a complete stranger ia doing well after surgery.
Tuesday, Becky Grise, a Butler County resident, received the new kidney from Kevin Harrod of Bowling Green.
The surgery took place at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. Both Grise and Harrod are doing great.
Last June, Grise placed billboards around Bowling Green seeking a new kidney. At the time, Grise was battling polycystic kidney disease.
Harrod saw the billboards, got tested, found out he was a match and decided to go through with the transplant surgery.
On the phone from his hospital bedroom, Harrod called the surgery a Christmas miracle.
“I have no regrets even with the pain I’m feeling,” said Harrod. “I’d do it all over and wouldn’t hesitate. There have been no regrets the whole time for me. I told her (Grise) from the day I called her that I was going to help her and God wanted me to. That’s the way it’s been.”
If all goes to plan, both Harrod and Grise could come home as soon as Friday.
