Kentucky’s attorney general announces opioid abatement funding for research
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Attorney General Russell Coleman has announced opioid abatement funding to support research addressing Kentucky’s drug epidemic.
According to a release by Coleman’s office, the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission has voted to allocate a total of $5 million in funding to support projects that prioritize research and innovative approaches to substance use disorders and overdose prevention.
“For too long, Kentucky was at the epicenter of the drug crisis. Now, by funding cutting-edge innovation, we also have the chance to be at the heart of the recovery,” Coleman said. “We’re looking to leaders in prevention, treatment and recovery to bring their best research ideas that can drive the solution, and, in turn, help save lives.”
Officials say the grants for this funding are open to any registered entity, including for-profits and nonprofits, that are in good standing with the Kentucky Secretary of State, as well as counties, cities and more.
Online applications are available starting July 1 by clicking here. Those same applications will close Dec. 20.
This grant opportunity is separate from other opportunities in the areas of prevention and treatment and recovery, which will open this fall for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
