Kentucky woman allegedly takes abortion medication, buries dead infant in backyard

CAMPTON, Ky. – A woman is facing homicide-related charges after allegedly aborting a pregnancy at her home in Wolfe County.
According to a release, Kentucky State Police Post 8 responded to United Clinic in Campton after receiving a call that a woman told staff she aborted her pregnancy at her home on Flat Mary Road on Wednesday.
Detectives and troopers interviewed Melinda S. Spencer, 35, of Campton.
Spencer allegedly told KSP she ordered a medication online to abort her pregnancy.
Detectives say Spencer took the medication, which resulted in the death of a developed male infant. Spencer allegedly told detectives she buried the infant in a shallow grave in the back yard of the property.
The release states that KSP responded to Spencer’s home in the 3700 block of Flat Mary Road and located the dead infant in the shallow grave.
Spencer was arrested and charged with fetal homicide, 1st degree, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with physical evidence.
The investigation is ongoing.
