Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice speaks at Bowling Green Rotary Club luncheon
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Bowling Green Rotary Club had a special guest speaker at its weekly lunch on Wednesday, the Hon. Judge John Minton Jr., the Chief Justice on the Kentucky Supreme Court.
Minton spoke to Rotarians for about 40 minutes before taking their questions.
He detailed what the state’s judicial branch does and how it works.
The Chief Justice also addressed a number of topics including bail reform, training to handle the opioid epidemic and pre-trial diversion programs.
Minton said he embraces giving remarks at community events because of a certain subject that he says students aren’t learning enough about.
“Civics education isn’t taught in schools anymore,” said Minton. “Part of my job is to provide some civics education, and this is part of the role as a spokesman for the court to update folks on what’s going on with their government and maybe even explain what courts do.”
Minton was first elected to the Kentucky Supreme Court in 2006. He and his family live in Bowling Green.
