BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Kentucky State Police are now accepting applications for this year’s Youth Academy program.

The program is meant to give kids interested in going into law enforcement a first-hand look at the leadership skills, physical fitness, and knowledge of the law required to be an officer.

This is the third year that the Kentucky State Police has been hosting the program, but this year, applicants can apply online.

The youth academy spans from June 28 to July 2.

During the week, participants will learn forensics in the KSP crime lab and will practice crime scene analysis and criminal investigations.

“Well, this is a Kentucky State Police effort to reach and inspire the next generation of police officers. So hopefully that’s going to be the thing, it benefits them incredibly,” said Trooper Katan Parker of Kentucky State Police Post 3.

Parker added, “If they have interest in law enforcement in their future, they’ll be ready if they come to our academy, if they go to another academy, hopefully inclined them to stay there and finish what they’re doing.”

Applications are due on May 14.

Those interested must be residents of Kentucky and be in the age range of 16 to 17.
