Kentucky State Police investigates trooper-involved shooting in Floyd County

HAROLD, Ky. – One man is dead following a negotiation incident in Floyd County.
According to the Kentucky State Police, KSP’s Critical Incident Response Team has been requested to investigate a trooper-involved shooting that occurred on Monday, Aug. 18 around 9 a.m. on property of a business on Kentucky 680 East near the Harold community in Floyd County.
Authorities say preliminary found that just before 7 a.m., troopers were notified of a male subject at a business who was attempting to enter several vehicles and requesting to be transported from that location.
Troopers say they arrived on scene and encountered the male subject, identified as 33-year-old Henry Foster of Raven, Virginia, who took out a gun and began threatening self-harm.
Authorities say additional troopers and officers from other agencies arrived on scene to assist.
During the interaction authorities say they began communicating with Foster to attempt to deescalate the situation and negotiate a peaceful resolution to the incident. This morning, authorities say a trooper discharged his agency issued firearm, causing Foster to sustain life-threatening injuries.
Life-saving measures were attempted, authorities say, but they were unsuccessful. Foster was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
