Kentucky lawmakers push for smoke-free school campuses

FRANKFORT, Ky. – A new bill in Kentucky could possibly clear the air of smoke from all schools statewide.

Students, school district leaders and healthcare professionals gathered in the Capitol Rotunda on Tuesday in Frankfort.

The groups rallied to encourage lawmakers to pass a “tobacco-free students bill.”

House Bill-11 and Senate Bill-27 would make all Kentucky schools K-12 100 percent tobacco-free.

This includes the use of electronic cigarettes like vapes and Juuls.

Some who are concerned about the bill believe the ban impedes on the rights of those old enough to smoke.

However, healthcare officials say the bill will protect the future health of students and staff.
