Kentucky lawmaker files legislation that would allow schools to post Ten Commandments

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WLKY) – A Kentucky lawmakers wants to bring the Ten Commandments into public schools.

Morehead Rep. Richard White filed the legislation.

Under House Bill 116, school boards could give teachers or administrators permission to read or post the document.

Unlike in other states, schools would not be required to display the Ten Commandments.

Louisiana became the first state to pass a law that required public schools and state-funded universities to post the Ten Commandments in schools last year.

That law took effect at the start of 2025.
