Kentucky K-Count to take place Jan. 29
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s nearing that time of year when Kentucky will take its annual count of its homeless population.
The Bluegrass State will participate in a nation-wide count of the homeless on Jan. 29.
The K-Count is coordinated by the Kentucky Housing Corporation.
On Monday, Barren River Area Safe Space will be offering a training for volunteers who would like to participate in the count.
Last year’s K-Count found about 4,000 homeless in Kentucky, a number some local agencies say seems inaccurate.
The program coordinator at Room in the Inn questions if a summer count would be better.
“The people we can find on those days are the people who are actively accessing services right now. The people who are not accessing daily services then we are less likely to count. There have been times when we’ve done a summer count. The summer count, I believe, has been historically a little bit higher,”said Sharli Rogers.
The BRASS training will be 2 p.m. Monday at 2109 River Street in Bowling Green.
