Kentucky Downs announces 2021 racing days
FRANKLIN, Ky.- Kentucky Downs has gotten approval for 2021 racing days after working with the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission.
Kentucky Downs representatives announced the live racing days will be held next year at the turf course beginning right around Labor Day on Sept. 5, 6, 8, 9, 11 and 12.
More details of the actual races and safety procedures will be announced closer to the event and depending on the status of the pandemic.
John Wholihan, Director of Marketing at Kentucky Downs, said he is excited to bring live racing back to the community in 2021.
“We’re looking forward to breaking new records. It’s great for the horse race and the local community when we have races here. So big purses – we usually do an average of $2 million in purses a day. So the horsemen love us, we love that the crowd loves us and that the state loves us, and it’s just great to be a part of Kentucky horse racing and the resurgence we’ve seen,” said Wholihan.
Wholihan also said they can’t wait to see their fans next year, as at this year’s races they were not allowed to have fans due to the pandemic.
