LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Courier Journal) — A Kentucky church has asked a federal appeals court to block the governor’s temporary ban on mass gatherings from applying to religious services. The Courier Journal reports that attorneys for Maryville Baptist Church are seeking an emergency injunction from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. The request comes after a federal judge refused to stop enforcement of Gov. Andy Beshear’s order amid the coronavirus pandemic. Marvyille Baptist Church has defied the governor’s order for houses of worship to not hold in-person services amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
