Kentucky Building celebrates 80th anniversary
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It was time to celebrate at the Kentucky Building Wednesday morning.
Kentucky Museum staff and members of the community gathered to celebrate the Kentucky Building’s 80th anniversary with a birthday party.
Construction on the building originally began in 1931, but due to the Great Depression, was not completed until 1939.
Since then, it has housed classrooms as well as the Kentucky Museum and WKU Department of Library Special Collections.
Kentucky Museum Marketing Manager Tiffany Isselhardt says the building wouldn’t have lasted these past 80 years if it wasn’t for the support of WKU and the local community.
“Public support is critical to every effort we have,” she said. “While WKU provides for our facility and staffing, our programs and events are sponsored completely by non-WKU sources. Grants, sponsorships, donations, the friends of the museum is absolutely critical to our success. Without the community support we simply would not be here.”
Guests were treated to cake and refreshments, and they had the opportunity to enter to win a one-year membership to the museum.
