HEBRON, Ky. (WLWT) – Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport is included on the FAA’s list of 40 airports seeing flights cut.

The FAA says it’s an effort to maintain safety during the government shutdown.

Travelers say they’re thankful they are getting out before the cuts start, even if it means they’re now questioning if they’ll have issues coming back home.

Patricia Miles, who is traveling to the Bahamas, says, “As far as coming back, I’m not sure how that is going to be. If there’s going to be a reduction, are we going to be delayed, setback or what?”

Then there’s Raeanne Davis, who wonders if she’ll be able to return to CVG after a college tour in Delaware.

Davis says, “Not too worried about it. If we have to drive, we’ll drive but we are going with friends and are happy to stay if we absolutely need to stay.”

Air traffic controllers are feeling the strain as they continue work without a paycheck.

Dave Herschberger, a travel agent, says this chaotic time requires preparation.

Herschberger says, “If you’re scheduling a flight in the next couple of weeks, probably recommend you don’t schedule the last flight of the day. Maybe an earlier flight and give yourself more connecting time.”

WLWT reports air travelers the station spoke to want to see resolve in Washington that keeps their travel plans on track.

Vikki Robinson, a traveler heading to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, says, “It’s not fair to the country. they need to put differences aside and figure it out.”

Flights will be reduced by 4% starting Friday. WLWT reports that percentage will move up to 10% next week.

The station reports this does not impact international flights.
