BOWLING GREEN Ky. – Many Kentuckians are starting to choose cremation over burial, according to recent statistics by the Cremation Association of North America.

David Bevil, director of the J.C. Kirby and Sons funeral home on Lovers Lane, has put this change mostly at the feet of young people who may be more open to exploring their options when it comes to funeral arrangements.

“I think the age the the older people had more traditional burials, things like that. So that’s kind of changing. Now. The young people are seeing different options and cremation is one of those options, but a lot of factors going into it. I just don’t think it’s just one,” Bevil said.

There are indeed many factors at play. Bevil said that the cost savings of as much as 30% at times may be very attractive to many families and the increased flexibility of when a family can hold a ceremony for the deceased is also attractive, especially for those families who are spread across the nation.

It is noteworthy that even though Kentuckians are often choosing cremation over traditional burial, the number is still well below that of other states.
