Keeping your dog safe at the park
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Even though it is late October, the warm weather is still here, and many dog owners are looking to get out with their dogs.
However, on social media, some are posting that their dogs are becoming sick at or shortly after leaving a local dog park.
Bowling Green Parks and Rec director Brent Belcher says they have recently received a report of a dog becoming ill while attending a local park. Belcher says they are not sure if the sickness is related to the park. But there are ways to help protect your pup if they attend the park.
“Make sure your dog shots are up to up to date, make sure that no aggressive dogs are at the park, that sort of thing, because that just contributes to keeping our safe environment,” Belcher said.
Belcher also says that all parks are cleaned daily by BGPR staff, and they are always on the look out for anything out of place.
However, BGPR says if the public sees anything strange, whether it’s a broken fence or wild mushrooms that could be dangerous to animals, or if they think their dog’s illness maybe connected to a park, to call BGPR immediately so they can investigate further.
