Juvenile dies after crash in Madison County

RICHMOND, Ky. – A juvenile has died following a crash in Madison County.
According to the Kentucky State Police, troopers were contact before 5:30 p.m. on Sunday regarding a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 75 near the 83-mile marker northbound in Madison County.
According to troopers, an initial investigation found traffic on I-75 was congested at the time of the crash.
Authorities say an international commercial vehicle driven by David Turner failed to slow down and hit the back of a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Rico Brown, 33, of Barea.
The collision caused the commercial motor vehicle to then hit a guardrail and collide with a 2024 Ford F-350 that was pulling a recreational vehicle, driven by Steven Wohlscheid.
As a result of the initial collision, authorities say the Chevrolet Silverado was pushed forward and struck the rear of a 2021 Freightliner driven by Justin Hill.
Brown, who was driving the Chevrolet Silverado, was transported to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A juvenile passenger in the vehicle was transported to Baptist Health Richmond, where he died due to his injuries and was pronounced dead by Madison County coroner Jimmy Cornelison.
The investigation is ongoing. He was assisted on scene by Kentucky State Police personnel, Madison County EMS, Madison County Fire Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and Madison County Coroner’s Office.
