Julie Morris Foundation moves operations to Bowling Green, looks to help students learn music
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A new nonprofit that got its start in East Tennessee now calls Bowling Green home.
The Julie Morris Foundation was started by musician Graysin Slade, named in honor of his late mother.
Through the foundation, Slade hopes to teach music to kids that might not otherwise have access to it.
Slade was a former math teacher, but left the classroom in 2019 to pursue music full time.
During the pandemic, he lived out of his truck while trying to make it in the industry.
After his mother’s passing, Slade was inspired to help others, and do so in her memory.
“Times are tough. People can’t afford to go pay $20 to go pay it… to buy a ticket to go see something, so I said ‘No, art should be free. Come enjoy. Bring your kids. Be inspired like I was.’ I want to give that to people… so the legacy, it’s just about changing the world,” Slade said.
The foundation plans to host a concert in the spring on Western Kentucky University’s campus. News 40 will keep you updated as we learn more.
