Josh Hurt is named next Metcalfe County School District superintendent

EDMONTON, Ky.- While students are away from school, a lot is happening at Metcalfe County.

The district is buzzing after the announcement of the school district’s next superintendent.

Josh Hurt will be the new leader of the Hornet’s nest.

“I’m looking forward to it. It’s a really proud, almost surreal moment to be able to take over that role and hopefully do good for the folks at Metcalfe County,” Hurt said.

Hurt is currently the district’s director of instruction. He’s coming in with 23 years of experience in education, with the past six being spent at the Metcalfe County School District. Hurt has also served as the Metcalfe County girls head basketball coach, high school curriculum coach and middle school assistant principal.

“That’s kind of where things all started here. I built a good relationship with the people and just fell in love with the place, the community, and the support Metcalfe County has for its schools,” Hurt said.

Hurt will succeed superintendent Dr. Benny Lile, who announced his retirement last November.

“He’s what I call a deep thinker when it comes to the instructional process, academic disciplines, and he’s always looking for a better way to connect with any number of students,” Lile said.

While Hurt has had many roles throughout his career, he said he’s ready to show his Hornet pride, and use what he’s learned from Lile, and the district as a whole.

“I’ve been a lot of different places and wore a lot of different hats, and I’m looking forward to the new one I get to wear,” Hurt said.

Hurt’s contract is effective July 1, 2020 and will run through June 30, 2024.
