Jordan Thomas Foundation Golf Tournament raises funds for kids’ prosthetics

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The second annual Jordan Thomas Foundation Golf Tournament kicked off on Monday at Olde Stone Golf Club.

Jordan Thomas started the Foundation 20 years ago when he lost both of his legs in a boating accident. After the tragedy, he vowed to provide prosthetic limbs for children that otherwise couldn’t afford them.

Prosthetic limbs can be expensive, with some getting up to as much as $20,000. If a child wants to play sports, they will have to pay out of pocket for the prosthetic, as insurance calls activity limbs “not medically necessary.”

Kids also grow out of them pretty quick. Just like shoes, they need to be replaced every 12-18 months. This event helps kids get more access to the equipment they need to make their everyday lives easier.

When asked about the event, Thomas stated that if you want to get behind a cause, that this is “about as easy a thing as you can get behind.”

“So what we do is we give prosthetics, but we also give kids access to their childhood. And so it’s a really powerful mission,” Thomas explained.

Last year, the Jordan Thomas Foundation raised $250,000 at the golf tournament and aims to get more this year. For more information about the cause, visit jordanthomasfoundation.org/.
