Johns Hopkins professor speaks on future of advanced learning
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The world of education is rapidly changing, and many are wondering what the future of the field might look like.
A professor from Johns Hopkins University came to WKU to address that very issue, talking about new developments in advanced learning at both a local and state level.
One of the main topics Dr. Jonathan Plucker discussed was artificial intelligence, which he says can go down one of three routes: It will either help us, be overused or be a detriment to our society.
That’s why he says this is the main area he thinks educators should work on as we head to the future.
“We can control how we help students and colleagues learn to use it so that it’s helpful… and I think we need to focus almost all of our effort as educators on that set of activities, which is how do you use it as a critical friend, as a creativity aid, as a grammar improvement if you will,” Dr. Plucker says.
He also talked about advanced learning itself, as he believes that state policymakers are much more interested in it as an economic development initiative, which he says is very positive.
