International Center of Kentucky building playground after receiving a $71K grant to impact community
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The International Center of Kentucky is benefitting from the Lowe’s Hometown Community Impact Program, bringing them a $71,000 grant.
According to the International Center of Kentucky, the funds went toward the construction of a new playground at the International Center of Kentucky’s main office in Bowling Green.
This will benefit refugees and immigrants in Bowling Green, especially when school-aged children that need to practice activities to prepare for school, and a simple playground has a much bigger impact than many people realize.
“We try as much as possible to teach them how to use the modern playground equipment that defined in the United States, which many of them are discovering for the very first time. So having a modern playground here at the center is like a window on what they will see when they go to school. So when they are used to the playground here, it will make it easier for them to integrate when they go to the school systems” said International Center of Kentucky executive director Albert Mbanfu.
The Lowe’s Hometown program is a five-year $100 million project to revitalize community spaces across the nation, according to a release.
This year, the International Center of Kentucky says the Lowe’s Hometown projects are reaching 44 states and Washington, D.C.
