Inspiring the future, old photo ignites a passion for healthcare

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – She keeps the photo with her all the time, and it gives her motivation when she feels things are getting a little tough.

Tyra King, a nursing student at Western Kentucky University, recently posted a picture on the “Spotted in Bowling Green” Facebook group asking if anyone knew the woman in the picture that her mom had kept from the day she was born.

The picture was a young woman who was the nurse that stuck by her mother’s side all night and day leading up to the birth.

King said when she came across the picture and heard the story, it brought up something in her that might have always been there. King said her mother told her the nurse was a great caretaker and didn’t judge her during the delivery. King said her mother was 18 at the time, and she felt that was a very important process. King said in healthcare, you shouldn’t judge, because it could always be you on the other side.

King said Facebook was able to identify her in just 28 minutes, and since then, she’s spoken to the nurse but hasn’t met her face to face just yet.

The WKU student has been a CNA for five years. She told us she can’t wait to continue her education into being a full time health professional.
