Inmate assaults deputy jailer at Butler County Jail
BUTLER Co., Ky- Sunday, the Morgantown Police responded to the Butler County Jail about an inmate who had assaulted a Deputy Jailer.
Police say that through the investigation, it was determined that Charles Clayton, 26, of Russellville had placed a Deputy Jailer in a chokehold, threatened to stab him, and demanded the keys to the jail’s door in an attempt to escape.
A trustee at the Jail witnessed the incident and physically attacked Clayton to release the Deputy Jailer, according to police.
Sometime after a second Deputy Jailer arrived to help, Clayton was able to seize control of this deputy’s Taser and attempted to tase the Deputy and another inmate.
Clayton was eventually restrained after two other inmates arrived to assist the Deputies.
Charles Clayton was charged by Morgantown Police with Kidnapping-Adult, Strangulation 1st Degree, Escape 1st Degree (Attempt), Disarming a Peace Officer, assault 3rd Degree -Inmate Assault on Correctional Employee, and Criminal Mischief 1st Degree.
Butler County EMS, 1st District Constable, and the Butler County SO also responded to the scene.
