Infectious disease specialist remains in critical condition

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One of the area’s leading infectious disease specialists, Dr. Rebecca Shadowen, remains in critical condition at UK Healthcare in Lexington.

Shadowen, who works for Med Center Health and is a member of the local COVID response group, is battling COVID-19.

Shadowen first announced she had tested positive for COVID-19 on May 13 after contracting the virus through community-acquired exposure when an elderly family member received care at home from an infected caregiver.  At that time, Shadowen said she did not believe she contracted the virus through her work at the hospital.
