Indiana woman charged with wanton endangerment, endangering welfare of minors

HORSE CAVE, Ky. – An Indiana woman is facing wanton endangerment, endangering the welfare of minor charges.

Kentucky State Police responded to a reckless driving complaint on I-65 southbound on Saturday.

Police say a black SUV was swerving across lanes. Police conducted a traffic safety stop.

An officer says that while conducting the traffic safety stop, children were inside the vehicle and were not wearing safety restraints. Two toddlers in the back of the vehicle were not restrained.

Police say that an odor of alcohol was present on the driver of the vehicle. The woman said her name is Emmonie Hart. Hart could not provide a driver’s license or insurance card.

Hart consented to a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. Following the testing, Hart was then placed under arrest.

Upon further investigation, police say Hart provided her sister’s name. The driver of the vehicle is Daytonna Hart, 26 of Michigan City, Indiana.

Hart is charged with wanton endangerment-1st degree, license to be in possession, failure to wear seat belts, failure to use child restraint device in vehicle, careless driving, operating motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol .08 (189a.010(1a) – 1st, failure to produce insurance card, endangering the welfare of a minor, giving officer false identifying information, theft of identity of another without consent, and operating on suspended or revoked operator’s license

Hart is lodged at the Hart County Jail.
