Indian Hills Country Club rebuilds clubhouse after last year’s fire

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Monday marked one full year since Indian Hills Country Club clubhouse was destroyed in a massive fire.

Last year on Dec. 7 a massive fire scorched the country club at a temperature so hot, metal objects were found melted in the rubble.

Tony Scenna, who is on the board of directors, says he is excited to see the new building coming along to replace the old.

“It’s kind of a redo. You know in golf they talk about having a mulligan? We got a mulligan and we rebuilt the clubhouse. It was only 12 years old and I was fortunate enough to be on the build of the original clubhouse. Of course, like anything, there were windows in the wrong place and doors that maybe weren’t in the right spot and little things, ‘Boy I wish we would have changed that or thought of that,’” said Scenna.

John Mullendore, the club’s head golf professional, lost sentimental items in the fire, his grandfather’s ring and cuff links.

He searched for hours in the rubble, to no avail.

Mullendore saying the anniversary was a reminder of the day it all happened.

“When I woke up in the morning, I was just flipping through social media and of course Pearl Harbor popped up, it was the anniversary of Pearl Harbor, and I was like oh man, it’s the date of the clubhouse and you know, just thinking about everything that we’ve been through, but actually looking forward to the future and what we’ve got going with this beautiful new building. So I’m really excited about that moving forward,” said Mullendore.

“We’ve come a long way in a year coming from a burned down shell. We built this building that we’re standing in right here as a temporary facility. We had to do some other temporary things this summer. Our kitchen is a trailer outside, and our cook has been working out of a trailer as opposed to a full blown kitchen,” said Scenna.

They expect to have the building completed and open to members by the fall.
