Illinois man arrested following pursuit in Warren County

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. –  An Illinois man is facing multiple charges following a pursuit in Warren County on Sunday.

According to the Kentucky State Police, troopers received a call just before 6 p.m. about a possible injury collision on Interstate 65 at the 30-mile marker.

Authorities say before arrival on scene, they received another call stating that 22-year-old Christian Smith of Flossmoor, Illinois was in the collision and had stolen a vehicle to flee the scene.

Smith was later seen traveling north on U.S. 31-W, where troopers tried to conduct a traffic stop, authorities say.

Troopers say Smith continued traveling on U.S. 31-W until he stopped on the northbound on-ramp to I-65 in Park City.

Smith was taken into custody and transported to the Warren County Regional Jail.

He remains there on charges of speeding 20 miles per hour over the speed limit, reckless driving, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), leaving the scene of an accident – failure to render aid or assistance, attempted carjacking, theft by unlawful taking between $10,000 and $1,000,000, two counts of first-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence and fourth-degree assault.

The investigation remains ongoing.
