Vavic gets ready for Tokyo in water polo as dad awaits trial

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. (AP) — Two years after his father was arrested as part of a college admissions investigation dubbed Operation Varsity Blues, Marko Vavic is pushing for a spot on the U.S. men’s Olympic water polo team. Jovan Vavic coached Southern California’s vaunted water polo programs to a combined 16 national championships. He is accused of accepting $250,000 in bribes in exchange for designating two prospective students as water polo recruits to facilitate their admission to USC. He has pleaded not guilty to fraud and conspiracy charges. Marko Vavic tells the AP the family is “fighting through it together.”
