A former Royal Marine who runs an animal shelter in Afghanistan says he and his staff were caught up in the aftermath of the explosion near the Kabul airport. Paul “Pen” Farthing said the group was outside the airport when the first blast occurred on Thursday. At least 13 people have been killed and another 15 wounded. Farthing says he and his staff and the animals they rescued are fine but that “everything is chaos here at the moment.” He spoke to Britain’s Press Association, describing sudden gunshots they heard and how his driver was almost shot in the head by a man with an AK-47 before they drove away.
