Roberto Martínez signs new deal as coach of Belgium

BRUSSELS (AP) — Belgium coach Roberto Martínez has signed a new contract to lead the national team through the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Martínez will also continue in his role as technical director for the Belgian federation for two more years. He says he has “unfinished business” following the postponement of the European Championship. The 46-year-old Martínez previously coached Premier League teams Everton and Wigan. He took over Belgium in 2016 and guided the team to the semifinals at the 2018 World Cup. Belgium is currently first in the FIFA rankings and qualified for Euro 2020 with a perfect record of 10 wins.
