Indonesia presses regional effort to resolve Myanmar crisis

BANGKOK (AP) — Regional diplomatic efforts to resolve Myanmar’s political crisis have intensified, while protests continue in Yangon and other cities calling for the country’s coup makers to step down and return Aung San Suu Kyi’s elected government to power. Indonesia’s foreign minister visited Thailand on Wednesday as part of her efforts to coordinate a regional response to the Feb. 1 coup. She held a trilateral meeting with her Thai counterpart and Myanmar’s new foreign minister, who also visited the Thai capital. Elsewhere, more than 130 civil society groups and other organizations concerned about the military takeover called for a global arms embargo on Myanmar.
