Howls of protest as UK starts 14-day quarantine for arrivals
LONDON (AP) — Britain began imposing a quarantine Monday on all travelers into the country _ a sweeping measure meant to halt the further spread of COVID-19. The measure has met with fierce criticism from the aviation and tourism industry, with many questioning its timing and effectiveness. Most passengers will be asked to fill in a form detailing where they will self-isolate for two weeks. Those who fail to comply could be fined. Crime, policing and justice minister Kit Malthouse says “having a clear set of rules around international travel is critical.” The quarantine was imposed after heated debate on whether it would stamp out any hope for the hospitality industry to recover following weeks of lockdown measures.
