NIAMEY, Niger (AP) — Hospital officials say a fire at an elementary school in Niger’s capital has killed 20 children. It was not immediately known what started the fire on Tuesday afternoon but authorities said that high winds in the area allowed the blaze to spread rapidly. The pupils — between the ages of 7 and 13 — were attending class at the time of the fire. Witnesses said the classrooms had burned completely by the time firefighters arrived at the scene.
