Drug check in Germany sparks attacks on police, vandalism

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Police in the German city of Stuttgart say a check for drugs sparked attacks on officers and widespread vandalism in the city. The disturbance started as an apparent reaction to a police search for drugs as groups of people partied outside late Saturday and early Sunday in a central park. Store windows were smashed along a shopping street and 20 people were arrested. Some 200 additional police had to be called to the scene and four officers were injured. Police said they were investigating to get a clearer picture of what happened.
