Hurricane Helene results in IV fluid shortages

CNN, KALB – Hospitals nationwide are struggling to conserve IV fluids after Hurricane Helene’s deadly path nearly two weeks ago.

The shortage comes after Baxter International Manufacturing Facility in Marion, North Carolina had to temporarily close after it was damaged.

The plant produces 60% of the IV fluids and dialysis solutions across healthcare systems in the United States.

Since the hurricane, some flooded roads connecting the supply chain have also created shipping problems.

On Monday, the CEO of the American Hospital Association said the Biden Administration needs to take steps to address the shortages.

The AHA also wants the Food and Drug Administration to declare a shortage of IV solutions.
