Humane Society of Edmonson County closes after 5+ years

EDMONSON COUNTY: After over five years, the Humane Society of Edmonson County is closing its doors.

Chairperson Katie Smith said the animals will go to the Warren County/Bowling Green Humane Society.

She admits there were multiple factors leading up to the closing, but burn out is the primary cause.

HSEC will still exist as a nonprofit on paper, according to Smith, and she hopes sometime in the future another person can run the society again.

Smith encourages people to adopt, spay and neuter and microchip to prevent animal overflow and euthanasia.

“We’ll be here whenever someone is ready,” said Smith. “We hope Edmonson County eventually builds an animal shelter to help, not only the cats that HSEC has been helping and the dogs that Bowling Green has been helping, but so that both can be helped in our community.”
