How to stay safe in floodwater

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Now that the rain has stopped and we’ve seen a look at the damages across the Commonwealth comes the recovery process.

If you’re starting to clean up your yard or flooded home, there are a few things to keep in mind.

After a flood, officials say it’s important to prioritize safety by avoiding floodwater, as there may be glass, sewer water or debris in the water.

Officials recommend that children do not be involved in disaster cleanup work, as they can be easily swept by rushing floodwaters, even if it’s only a few inches high.

Lastly, if you have flooding inside the home, it’s best to not touch anything connected to an electrical source and let professionals come over to take a look.
