How to stay safe from scams and fraudulent activities in Kentucky

SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY – Multiple forms of fraud can happen to anyone, but being prepared and doing your research can keep you from getting scammed.

Experts tell us that more than 400 individuals were victims of fraudulent property activity in 2024, and in 2023, Kentuckians reported $48 million in losses. Whitney Adkins with the BBB tells us how scams like these can often be missed.

She says, “With this type of scam coming to light. You know, a victim may not realize right away, like, the person I hired is busy. They’ll get back to me. You know, it can take a while before they they come to the realization, When you have situations like that the unfortunate thing is that we often see scammers follow and prey on victims at a time when they are especially vulnerable.”

The BBB encourages everyone to do research on any company that may want to work with you.
