How to save power during summer
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Temperatures are rising as the calendar advances into the latter parts of summer. BGMU and TVA have some tips to save power and money on energy bills.
Some suggestions are closing blinds and windows during the hottest part of the day, turning off and unplugging unused appliances and even caulking windows panes to better seal the home.
Turning the thermostat to a reasonable yet comfortable temperature is also important. TVA suggests 78 degrees and BGMU suggests 74 degrees. It is important to not change the thermostat once it is programmed as this causes the air conditioner to draw more power.
TVA offers a one-time free home inspection either in-person or virtual which can help homeowners better understand things that need to be considered when trying to save power during the summer heat and the cold of winter.
