How the community impacts local nonprofits and their missions on Giving Tuesday
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With the season of giving in full swing, nonprofits are looking for a little extra help as today marks Giving Tuesday.
Giving Tuesday is a day for nonprofits to reach out and receive a little extra help as we get closer to the end of the year. The south-central Kentucky community is no stranger to this, though, as they have showed up time and time again supporting our local nonprofits and the missions that they fight for.
“Donations aren’t just about money. It’s a donation of time, donation of resources, their connections, whatever they can do to help us grow. So we’re we’re fortunate to have the best support system and volunteer network and donors in the area,” said Kentucky Kids on the Block executive director Ashley Reynolds.
But it can be expensive to run a nonprofit from keeping the lights on to traveling to schools that money, time and resources are valuable to nonprofits as they look to expand their impact as far as they can.
“This year, we’re looking at a projected number of counties of 28, so 28 counties that we’ve been able to reach and impact children in across Kentucky. And that is possible because of funders and donations from people in the community,” said Amanda Guerra, director of programs for Kentucky Kids on the Block.
But if you can’t donate, there are easier ways to step in and help. Kentucky Kids on the BLOCK says that you can do so right at home.
“Best thing you can do for kids on the block is just to talk to your own children, you know, see what kids are going through, what they’re dealing with at school. Ask if they’re dealing with a bully. Ask if you know, if they feel safe in all their environments. You know, the biggest thing I want people to do is just to get to know the children in their lives, whether it’s their family, their friends, their neighbors, and just make a difference in a child’s life because, you know, you can accomplish everything in the world, but nothing’s more important than making a difference in the life of a child,” Reynolds said.
Of course, donations of time, money and other resources are welcome no matter the time of year. Reynolds says that if you would like to volunteer with them, you can give them a call, and they will gladly accept any and all help.
