House on the Hill packs food boxes for Thanksgiving season
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – House on the Hill held its annual Thanksgiving food box packing on Thursday, looking to help the hungry in our community this season.
Hundreds of community members gathered inside of Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland’s Bowling Green warehouse to pack up Thanksgiving meals for those in our community who need them.
These boxes will go to the different schools in Bowling Green and Warren County, as well as the Housing Authority of Bowling Green and to various homeless shelters.
“What’s happening tonight, what these folks are doing is actually serving. We have 1,008 boxes, but when you multiply that times the number of people that are going to receive that food. We’re talking 4 or 5,000 people that are going to be fed through what these folks are doing here tonight,” House on the Hill executive director Joel Hawkins says.
About 1 in 5 children in our community struggle with food insecurity or housing instability, so Hawkins says these boxes are going to be massive, but they couldn’t do the work without the community’s help.
