Houchens Industries Small Business Accelerator ready for applicants

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s been in the works for four years and now will be taking applications through Aug.13.

A small business accelerator by Houchens Industries and the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce is now a reality.

News 40 spoke to Abraham Williams, executive director of the Bowling Green Housing Authority, who said it was a big effort from not only them but Houchens as well as the city, county and state government to pool the money together to pull off such a big venture.

Williams said f0ur years ago, he was in talks with other community stakeholders about small business opportunities and found that many people just had a hard time being able to afford a space, and that’s when the idea came about to transform an old Save-A-Lot that had been abandoned for decades into a new home for small business.

The space is geared toward minorities, women and low income businesses, as well as businesses impacted by the tornadoes of December 2021.

Williams encouraged applicants to reach out to the housing authority if interested. He said you can call them at 270-843-6071 or stop by at 247 Double Springs Road. You can also email Dawn Bolton at dbolton@habg.org or Katie Miller at kmiller@habg.org.

Williams said spaces available include restaurant, bakery/sandwich shop, hair and nail salons as well as office and retail space. For additional info, you can go to http://www.habgpopup.org
