Houchens Food Group reportedly withdraws from grocery store project in Edmonton

Edmonton Metcalfe County

EDMONTON, Ky. – A possible grocery store project in Edmonton is now withdrawn, according to an update from the Barren River Area Development District.

On Monday, Oct. 5, an associate with BRADD confirmed the City of Edmonton stated that Houchens Food Group has “backed out of the grocery store project.”

BRADD further stated the following:

“On Sept. 17, Houchens Food Group (HFG) was chosen as the grant recipient at a regularly scheduled Metcalfe County Fiscal Court meeting. HFG provided promising renderings of the building and provided a satisfactory business plan for long-term success. HFG was the only eligible applicant for the project.”

“We reached out to HFG to finalize a plan to announce their selection. Following one phone call and a brief email exchange, we were told that HFG would get back to us with relevant information for that media release. We’ve attempted to make contact since then, but have not heard back. We’ve now heard from the City of Edmonton that HFG has backed out of the grocery store project due to negative Facebook comments.”

The statement further said the city had been waiting for a letter of acceptance or withdrawl from Houchens Food Group.

Additional information has not been released at this time.

News 40 has contacted Houchens Food Group’s press contact, as well as Smith, and will provide updates as further information is released.
