Hopkinsville man charged with attempted murder after allegedly bear hugging, strangling officer

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – A Hopkinsville man faces several charges after resisting arrest.
The Hopkinsville Police Department says an officer saw a motorcycle passing a vehicle on the right side of the shoulder on Old Clarksville Pike and Ft. Campbell Boulevard on Wednesday.
The officer initiated a traffic stop at the area of the 7-mile marker on the Pennyrile Parkway. The motorcyclist was identified as Carlo Jones, 43, of Hopkinsville. The officer says Jones argued and said he did not need to provide his driver’s license.
Jones allegedly resisted arrest, pushed the officer, and then bear hugged the officer. Jones and the officer fell over a guardrail toward an embankment of water.
Jones allegedly mounted and strangled the officer, who almost lost consciousness.
Jones was ultimately apprehended and is charged with improper passing, murder of a first responder (peace officer) (attempt), resisting arrest, and menacing. He is lodged at the Christian County Detention Center.
