Hopkinsville man charged with assault after shooting man

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – Hopkinsville police arrest man on assault charge.

Police say they responded to a call of shots fired at 9:30 am on Monday.

Officers arrived at the scene and located the victim, Demetrees Bussell, inside a residence located in the 300 block of South Jessup Avenue.

Police say that during the investigation, they determined that the suspect, identified as Keyivoran Pettigrew, ran into a residence on South Oneal Avenue before they arrived.

Pettigrew was found inside the home.

Police say the incident was a result of a verbal altercation. Pettigrew drew a firearm and shot Bussell in the leg and upper arm.

Bussell was transported to Jennie Stuart Health Hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.

Police apprehended Pettigrew on charges of assault 2nd degree.

Pettigrew is lodged at the Christian County Jail.
