Hope for Hunger event delivers food across the region
BOWLING GREEN Ky.- The need for food is always great, even when there’s not a worldwide pandemic. For this need, there is a solution, in rolled the Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland truck.
Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland partnered with the Realtor’s Association of Southern Kentucky for the Hope for Hunger event.
“We’ve developed this partnership and thank goodness we did. They have been extremely instrumental in our event this year. Without them, we couldn’t have gotten all the food we needed to order,” said Angi Cline with the Realtors Association of Southern Kentucky.
With the need for full meals being so great, the team traveled to multiple school districts in South Central Kentucky, dropping off loads of food at different drop off locations.
“We know that the need this year is just so great. Normally we cater to the backpack program and focus on items that can be opened and cooked by children without having to have an adult around. But this year, we’ve turned our focus to providing meals for entire families,” Cline said.
At each district, the food will be sent to the family resource centers from the various drop off locations.
“The family resource centers have the finger on the pulse of all of the kids in the schools. They get the food exactly where it needs to go because they know where the need is greatest,” Cline said.
Another way the community bands together to provide a helping hand to those in need, a helping hand that the staff hope can keep reaching out.
“We have definitely felt the impact, and hopefully we’ll be able to continue that relationship next year,” Cline said.
